Winning design concept for the UW’s Central Campus

Respect for the historical transport layout while transforming it into a pedestrian-friendly area are the features of the winning design for the development of the University of Warsaw campus on Krakowskie Przedmieście. The architectural and urban planning competition was decided on 18th August.

Admission results 2025/2026

Over 61,000 enrolments by more than 32,000 candidates – on 22nd July we announced the results of the admission process for first-cycle and full-cycle programmes as well as some second-cycle programmes at the University of Warsaw. A total of 21,562 places are available for students at the UW in the new academic year.

Safety at the UW

The University of Warsaw has launched a new website where you can learn how to act in an emergency situation: fire, accident, contamination or finding a suspicious object. The university also has an emergency telephone number: (22 55) 22 112.

University of Warsaw in the Shanghai Ranking 2025

Academic Ranking of World Universities 2025, known as the Shanghai Ranking, has been released. The University of Warsaw ranks 401–500 among the world's best universities. It is also the highest-ranked Polish university.

Students from Tanzania visit the UW

Prof. Maciej Raś, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching and Learning, met with the winners of a debate competition from two Tanzanian universities at the University of Warsaw. The meeting was part of a study visit organised by the Polish Press Agency on behalf of the Department of Promotion and Cultural Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rector of the UW at the Scientific Council of the Military Medical Institute

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, has been appointed to the Scientific Council of the Military Medical Institute – National Research Institute. The ceremony of presenting the appointments by the Minister of National Defence took place on 13th August.

UNICA network meeting at the University of Warsaw

Representatives from over 50 universities associated with the UNICA network will discuss research collaboration in a changing environment and the security of research data. The two-day meeting at the University of Warsaw will begin on 25th September. Registration is required.

Anti-dropout programme at the University of Warsaw

On 1st October, the University of Warsaw will launch “The Anti-dropout Programme – Stay at UW!”. Thanks to funding from the European Social Development Fund 2021–2027, the university will develop a systematic approach to tackling dropout rates. This will involve comprehensive monitoring of the phenomenon and the implementation of preventive measures.

Open Science Policy at the University of Warsaw

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, signed an ordinance introducing the Open Science Policy at the university. It defines the basic assumptions and principles regarding open access to the results of research conducted at the University of Warsaw, including publications and research data.

Vocal champions among birds

Scientists from the University of Warsaw and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań studied the little crack, an extremely secretive bird species living in Poland. It turns out that they can sing in duets, which are among the fastest and most coordinated in the bird world. The results of the study were published in the journal “Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences”.

4EU+ shared courses initiative: Call for proposals

UW academic teachers can once again submit courses that are fully delivered (including assessment) in an online or hybrid mode to be made available to students and doctoral candidates from 4EU+ Alliance member universities. The courses will be made available as part of the 4EU+ shared courses initiative. Proposals must be submitted by 8th September.

4EU+ courses for students and doctoral candidates

Soil mechanics, psycholinguistics, programming, and language classes. Four partner universities in the 4EU+ Alliance have reopened registration on courses for students and doctoral candidates. There are 55 courses available in University of Geneva, Charles University in Prague, University of Milan, and the Sorbonne University.

Third edition of the SEED4EU+ initiative

SEED is the 4EU+ Alliance initiative, which allows inter-university teams to receive funding for their educational or research projects. Applications are open until 3rd October.

Victory at the International Olympiad in AI

“We have outstanding young people and extraordinary potential for development in strategic areas of today’s world. With such great talent, we can have a real impact on the future,” says Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, congratulating the Polish representatives on their success at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) in Beijing.
