Beginning of classes in the 2025/2026 academic year

The 2025/2026 academic year inauguration ceremony at the University of Warsaw takes place on 1st October. This is a day off from classes. Lectures in all units will begin on 2nd October.

Information spot for newcomers at the University of Warsaw

The Welcome Point at the University of Warsaw has opened its Pavilion for students, doctoral candidates and employees beginning their studies or job at the University of Warsaw. The information point will be open until 17th October. Newcomers can get answers to all questions about studying and working at the University of Warsaw, as well as everyday life in Warsaw.

New building of the UW’s Faculty of Psychology in Ochota

The new building of the UW’s Faculty of Psychology, located on Banacha Street, has six floors and an area of 26.6 m2. The building includes an auditorium for over 380 people, seminar rooms, lecture halls, computer rooms, group work rooms and research laboratories. There is a garden on the roof and an observation deck. It will be used by approximately 2,000 people.

General Director of BUW appointed

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the Rector of the University of Warsaw, has appointed Dr Krzysztof Nierzwicki to the position of the General Director of the University of Warsaw Library. His term of office began on 1st September and will last for five years.

Asteroid named after Prof. Jerzy Madej

A ceremony was held at the University of Warsaw to present a certificate confirming the naming of an asteroid in honour of Prof. Jerzy Madej from the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw. From now on, the celestial body will be called Jerzymadej.

4EU+ courses for students and doctoral candidates

Soil mechanics, psycholinguistics, programming, and language classes. Four partner universities in the 4EU+ Alliance have reopened registration on courses for students and doctoral candidates. There are courses available in Heidelberg University and Paris-Panthéon-Assas University.

Third edition of the SEED4EU+ initiative

SEED is the 4EU+ Alliance initiative, which allows inter-university teams to receive funding for their educational or research projects. Applications are open until 3rd October.

Academic Ranking of World Universities 2025, known as the Shanghai Ranking, has been released. The University of Warsaw ranks 401–500 among the world's best universities. It is also the highest-ranked Polish university.

Rector of the UW at the Scientific Council of the Military Medical Institute

Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, has been appointed to the Scientific Council of the Military Medical Institute – National Research Institute. The ceremony of presenting the appointments by the Minister of National Defence took place on 13th August.
