The University of Warsaw was visited by Nassim Taleb, an American economist, philosopher and writer. Taleb’s meeting with representatives of the UW and other institutions was organised by the Centre for Systemic Risk Analysis.
Nassim Nicolas Taleb is a renowned economist, trader and philosopher of Lebanese origin. In his publications, Taleb focuses on issues of probability and uncertainty. He works at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of the New York University.
During the meeting on 8th May at the University of Warsaw, future cooperation between the Centre for Systemic Risk Analysis (affiliated to the UW’s Faculty of „Artes Liberales” as part of the IDUB programme) and external partners was discussed. The research on threats of modern civilisation would be at the centre of this collaboration. Furthermore, Nassim Taleb shared his experience of using stock market analysis methods to predict systemic risks.
The event in Kazimierzowski Palace was attended by the UW authorities, members of the Centre for Systemic Risk Analysis and representatives of other institutions.
The Centre for Systemic Risk Analysis focuses on studying threats to systems on which the functioning of humans and societies critically depends, and on seeking and supporting ways of minimising these threats. The Centre is transdisciplinary in nature. It brings together researchers from different research fields and traditions, trying to create a coherent theoretical perspective that goes beyond the perspectives of individual scientific disciplines.
