Classes in Heidelberg, Copenhagen or at Sorbonne University? Courses, workshops, summer and winter schools spent with peers from foreign universities? A semester at another national or international institution? These are just some of the opportunities available for students and doctoral candidates of the University of Warsaw that take place as part of the 4EU+ Alliance, Erasmus+ or MOST programmes.

The UW is a member of the 4EU+ Alliance and together with seven other European universities (Sorbonne University, University of Geneva, Heidelberg University, Charles University in Prague, University of Copenhagen, University of Milan, Paris-Panthéon-Assas University) cooperates in the areas of education, research, technology transfer or mobility. The aim of the universities is to create one common international campus.

Students and doctoral candidates can benefit from the wide range of educational initiatives offered by 4EU+, which include:

  • shared courses – classes taught by 4EU+ universities,
  • workshops related to the topics of the flagship programmes,
  • summer or winter schools.

In the summer term 2022/2023 and winter term 2023/2024, 214 UW students and doctoral candidates participated in the shared courses. The initiatives included summer schools on fighting cancer (4EU+ Against Cancer), fungal morphology (4EU+ Summer School: Fungal Morphology) or an autumn school for doctoral candidates (Collegio Futuro).

The UW, together with other 4EU+ universities, creates international joint studies, e.g. Global Environment and Development (MERGED).

4EU+ provides opportunities to participate in educational and research projects for which grants can be obtained. Current proposals for students and doctoral candidates are available under “Get involved” tab on the 4EU+ website and under 4EU+ tab on the UW website.

Most of the research and education projects that are carried out in the 4EU+ Alliance relate to four flagship programmes:

  • Health and demographic change in an urban environment;
  • Europe in a changing world: Understanding and engaging societies, economies, cultures and languages;
  • Data, Models, Transformations;
  • Environmental transitions.

Erasmus+ is a European Union programme which enables students, doctoral candidates and graduates to undertake part of their studies or an internship abroad. Academic teachers can work at partner universities abroad, and non-academic employees can receive training, during which they have the opportunity to learn about solutions applied at other institutions.

Since the Erasmus programme’s inception (the 1998/1999 academic year), the UW has made more than 40,000 outgoing and incoming visits, awarded scholarships worth more than EUR60 million and admitted around 10,000 students from partner universities.

Thanks to the programme, UW students and doctoral candidates are able to travel to both European Union and non-EU countries participating in the programme, which include Iceland, Turkey or the UK.

In the 2022/2023 academic year, 974 UW students and doctoral candidates participated in the Erasmus+ programme. UW students and doctoral candidates can also spend a semester or a whole year at a different Polish university. Candidates are able to choose from among twenty institutions.

A list of partner universities is available on the website of the UW’s International Relations Office. The website also contains information on other mobility programmes.

MOST

Participants of the MOST programme complete part of their studies outside their university, which enables them to establish contact with a wider range of specialists, use the library collection of another unit and develop soft skills. Participation in the programme is free of charge.

The exchange is open to students no earlier than after they have completed the second semester of their studies in first-cycle programmes and full-cycle programmes or the first semester of their studies in second-cycle programmes, as well as doctoral candidates after they have completed their first year of training in a doctoral school.

Admissions to the programme take place twice a year. Enrolment for the winter semester or the entire academic year 2024/2025 is open until 15th May. More information about the MOST programme >>
