“By working together and advancing our research, we will be able to do a lot for the development of modern medicine. We will influence what happens in modern medicine in Europe and in the world,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, said during the signing of a letter of intent to establish the Polish Consortium of Robotic Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Telemedicine Group. The agreement concluded on 10th February between the Military Medical Institute and six leading medical and academic centres concerns cooperation in the development of robotic surgery, artificial intelligence (AI) and telemedicine, with an emphasis on innovative technologies in medicine, research and education.
On 10th February, an agreement was concluded between the Military Medical Institute – National Research Institute (WIM) and six leading medical and academic centres, including the University of Warsaw, the Holy Cross Cancer Centre, the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 4 in Lublin, the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin, the University Children’s Hospital in Lublin and the Medical University of Lublin.
“The University of Warsaw wants to contribute to an even better service to patients. We believe that our scientists working in chemistry, physics, artificial intelligence, biology, mathematics, and medicine will do everything possible to make this happen. We have a very strong group of students, doctoral candidates and employees who want to be active within the consortium,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, said during the meeting, adding: “By working together and advancing our research, we will be able to do a lot for the development of modern medicine. Academic centres from abroad are interested in deepening cooperation. We will influence what happens in modern medicine in Europe and the world.”
The agreement concerns cooperation in the development of robotic surgery, artificial intelligence (AI) and telemedicine, with an emphasis on innovative technologies in medicine, research and education.
Under the signed document, the parties commit to a number of joint activities, including the creation of the “Polish Group for Robotic Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Telemedicine”. The aim of the collaboration is to create a Register of Robotic Procedures and to conduct multidisciplinary research work on new treatment methods using modern technologies.
The parties have also agreed to carry out retrospective and prospective studies on the efficacy of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) surgeries, with a particular focus on lung cancer, colorectal cancer or gastric cancer. They will also seek external funding opportunities and engage in international research projects in this area.
The collaboration also includes the organisation of training courses, workshops and scientific conferences that will promote the results of joint research and the implementation of new technologies in medical practice. The parties have also planned to develop educational programmes in robotic surgery and artificial intelligence, aimed at students and academic employees.
The signing of the agreement is another step towards intensifying cooperation for innovative solutions in medicine, with an emphasis on integrating modern technologies into clinical practice, especially in the context of the needs of the Armed Forces.
The signing of the letter of intent took place at the Military Medical Institute. Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Prof. Maria Mrówczyńska was a guest at the meeting.
