On 31st January Jerzy Pieszczurykow terminated from his position of the Chancellor. “His committed 24-year work for the University has largely improved this place,” underlined Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, UW Rector. Since 1st February the UW Chancellor’s duties are duly fulfilled by Robert Grey, former Director for Communication and External Relations, and Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Development and Cooperation.

Jerzy Pieszczurykow obtained his Master degree in civil engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology and completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw. He started his work at the University of Warsaw on 1st January 1998. “During 24 years of his employment Jerzy Pieszczurykow marked his part in numerous successful changes at the University,” said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, UW Rector.

 

At the UW Senate meeting, on 19th January, Rector, Vice-Rectors and Senate members expressed their immense gratitude and appreciation for Jerzy Pieszczurykow’s work for the University of Warsaw.

 

In his speech, Jerzy Pieszczurykow, UW Chancellor, briefly presented and discussed the most important UW projects, modernisation of UW buildings, implemented phone system, and other administrative initiatives.

 

“Warmly thanking the University authorities, I am much obliged to the UW central administration for our long-term cooperation and the work that was abundant in both challenges and meaningful accomplishments. We have built efficient and productive teams with clear goals and competencies. The teamwork efficiency and productivity facilitated the achievement of set goals and growing expectations. I am being convinced about the well-deserved satisfaction from our work, as well as the continuous development of the University of Warsaw,” said Jerzy Pieszczurykow.

 

The Chancellor is the head of the whole University’s administration and annually accounts for their activities to the Rector. Pursuant to the UW Statute, the Chancellor is selected by way of a competition. The competition of November 2021 was entered by two candidates. The competition committee appointed Robert Grey, a former Director for Communication and External Relations and Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Development and Cooperation.

 

Robert Grey occupied the position of the Undersecretary of State for Economic Diplomacy, the Americas, Asia and Eastern Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. He also worked on cooperation and resource mobilisation for the United Nations in New York. Robert Grey specialises in public-private partnership that involves innovations in science, business and entrepreneurship. He graduated the University of Massachusetts and the New School University in New York. He completed a number of programmes in management and leadership, e.g. Oxford Leadership Programme in Saïd Business School University of Oxford, Artificial Intelligence in Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
