On 1st August, the community of the University of Warsaw commemorates the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. The ceremony at the UW Main Campus is accompanied by the opening of the exhibition “Krybar – 80 years of memory”.

80 years ago, the soldiers of the Home Army, who formed later the “Krybar” Regiment, made an attempt to retake the University of Warsaw from the hands of the occupying German forces. Further attempts were carried out on 23rd August and 2nd September.

Every year, on 1st August, the University of Warsaw and the Association of Soldiers of the “Krybar” Regiment in the World Association of Home Army Soldiers (PL: Środowisko Grupy Bojowej „Krybar” Światowego Związku Żołnierzy Armii Krajowej) organise a commemorative meeting. During the ceremony, flowers are placed under the plaque devoted to the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising.

This year’s gathering started at noon in the vicinity of the UW Main Gate, followed by the opening of the exhibition “Krybar – 80 years of memory”, which is located outside of the University of Warsaw Museum and in front of the building of the Old Library.
