On 17th March the representatives of the University of Warsaw and the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute took part in a series of lectures and scientific meetings titled “Under the sign: Medicine”, which was accompanied by the unveiling of a new plate of the Faculty of Medicine.
The event “Under the sign: Medicine” (Pol. Pod znakiem medycyny) was organised on 17th March by the University of Warsaw and the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute at the UW Biological and Chemical Research Centre.
On this occasion, the UW and the MIM-NRI researchers could present and discuss the scope of their work as well as speak to fellows and prospective partners in research. The event gained particular significance with the unveiling of a new sign of the Faculty of Medicine. The UW Biological and Chemical Research Centre’s building will be the future seat of the faculty.
Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, expressed his gratitude to everyone engaged in the works that resulted in the newly-established Faculty of Medicine. “Thanks to these people’s involvement and the support from the academic community, medicine is returning to our University after an over 70-year hiatus,” the Rector underlined.
At present the UW employs about 150 academics whose duties are directly associated with medicine, i.e. research work, lectures and therapy. Prof. Nowak indicated that medical activities are deeply rooted within the University. Thus, the new Faculty of Medicine is intended to become a hub to focus scientists and researchers from Europe and farther places.
Maj. Gen. Prof. Grzegorz Gielerak, the Director of the Military Institute of Medicine maintained that education is fundamental for the new faculty to function properly, yet it is the progress that shifts it forward through research and development.
The event “Under the sign: Medicine” (Pod znakiem medycyny) was attended by the governance of the University, the faculties and the Military Institute of Medicine as well as the researchers from both institutions.
