The University of Warsaw will make it possible for people from Palestine to pursue their studies. “We believe that allowing students from Palestine to continue their studies at the University of Warsaw is an expression of our solidarity and a contribution to building a better future based on education and mutual respect” said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector.

The University of Warsaw has always been actively involved in helping those affected by armed conflicts, natural disasters or humanitarian crises. This time, bearing in mind the situation in the Middle East, especially the impact of hostilities on the lives of civilians, the University wants to make it possible for students from Palestine who wish to continue their education to pursue their studies. An enrollment process is underway with 26 participants. The University of Warsaw is in direct contact with the Palestinian Embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Internal Security Agency. Our primary goal is to offer those who have experienced warfare the opportunity to study. However, it is necessary to have a process that complies with the regulations, and security. This is why a vetting procedure is underway for those notified by the Palestinian side.

“The actions we are taking will contribute to creating a space where those affected by the effects of warfare can develop, gain knowledge and co-create a future based on peace and understanding,” says Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, adding:  We believe that allowing students from Palestine to continue their education at the University of Warsaw is an expression of our solidarity and a contribution to building a better future based on education and mutual respect.

For centuries, the University of Warsaw has upheld values such as freedom of thought, equality of opportunities, and openness to diversity. It is a place where everyone can develop their passions and share views, even difficult ones. An academic space shaped in this way allows us to learn from each other, understand different perspectives, solve problems together, and have an impact on building a world in which peace is an essential value.
