The results of the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities, also called the Shanghai Ranking, are out. The University of Warsaw and Jagiellonian University hold the first place among Polish universities.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is one of the most prestigious university rankings in the world. It has been published since 2003 and features 1,000 best rated universities.

Eight Polish universities are included in this year’s edition of the ranking. The University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University take the highest positions in this group. Both universities are ranked between 401–500.

The top positions are held by American universities: Harvard University, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Universities listed in the Shanghai Ranking are ranked by several indicators of academic or research performance, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in Nature and Science, and papers indexed in major citation indices of the Web of Science™: Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index™.
