On 9th August, a meeting was held between the Rector of the University of Warsaw and the families of the students detained in Nigeria. During the meeting, attended also by the UW Chancellor and the authorities of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the actions taken so far and the findings of the case were discussed. The Rector conveyed to the students’ families that according to the Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, and other sources, the students were safe.

“We are doing everything in our power to ensure that our students and the lecturer return home as quickly and safely as possible. We are in regular contact with the families of the detainees,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, emphasised.

The University authorities are taking further measures in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consular services and other institutions. The safety of the detainees determines the actions and the extent of the information provided.
