University of Warsaw: 210 Years of Development
The University of Warsaw will celebrate its 210th anniversary this year. To mark this anniversary, the university has organised a number of events highlighting the academic community’s most significant achievements and successes. The celebrations will kick off with an exhibition at Kazimierzowski Palace entitled ‘The University of Warsaw: 210 Years of Development’. The opening will take place on 1 October at 12.45 pm.
Dear Members of the University Community/Dear Visitors,
The University of Warsaw is 210 years old. For more than two centuries, we have grown and evolved — educating generations, advancing knowledge, and serving society and the state.
Today, we face a new set of challenges. We are witnessing profound social change, a rapidly changing climate, and technological advances that are transforming not only the economy but the world around us. Our role is not simply to adapt to these developments. We want to stay ahead of them — and help shape the direction they take.
Together with our academic community, we have developed the University of Warsaw Strategy for 2023–2032. It sets out the University’s priorities for education, research, sustainable development, and the working environment. Putting the Strategy into practice means creating the conditions for modern, forward-looking education and groundbreaking research, strengthening collaboration, and managing the University’s resources responsibly.
The UW community is changing before our eyes. We are becoming increasingly mobile and more deeply engaged in international research networks. We are taking on projects of growing complexity—not only in terms of their academic scope, but also in their institutional dimensions. Our presence and engagement in the wider economic environment are also growing. None of this would be possible without a strong culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, infrastructure that supports commercialisation and fosters innovative research.
The University’s development also brings responsibility: for our community, for the conditions in which we work and study, and for the social and natural environment around us. We want the University of Warsaw to be open, accessible, and responsible—to respond to change, but also to play an active role in shaping it.
I invite you to explore this exhibition, which presents 210 years of the University of Warsaw’s development — its history, its achievements today, and its vision for the future.
I believe that we will continue to shape the future of the University of Warsaw together — drawing on the knowledge, experience, sense of responsibility, and talent of our entire community.
