Residents of UW’s dormitories will be subject to new rules. The amended regulations of UW’s Student Halls of Residence organise the existing rules and introduce solutions that will meet the needs of students better.
The new regulations for UW’s Student Halls of Residence were announced on 5th June 2024. They specify the rules for allocating places and residing in dormitories. The updates and changes came into force on 30th September 2025. The new provisions simplify procedures, standardise the criteria for allocating places, and ensure greater transparency.
The changes are also a response to the voices of the students themselves. The work was based, among others, on the results of a survey of students’ needs conducted by the UW’s Students’ Council. As a result, the new regulations take into account the demands that have long been voiced by dormitory residents.
New rules
One of the most important changes introduced to the regulations is the extension of the points system used to allocate places in student halls of residence. In addition to the existing criteria, factors such as distance from the place of residence or registered address have been taken into account. The scoring in the existing categories has also been updated to better reflect the diverse situations of students. In addition, the wording of some criteria has been clarified so that there is no room for doubt, e.g., points for volunteer work will only be awarded for involvement in the UW’s Volunteer Centre.
The new rules for allocating places will come into force on 16th February 2026, and will be implemented from the stage of applying for a place for the 2026/2027 academic year.
