Two consortia of the University of Warsaw received funding as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The funds have been allocated to the projects “DARIAH-PL Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities” and “National Cloud Infrastructure PLGrid for EOSC – PLGrid ICON”.

The project DARIAH-PL Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities was granted funding in the first call as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PL: Krajowy Plan Odbudowy; KPO). It received the highest score among the evaluated proposals. The main objective of the project is to further develop Poland’s intelligent digital research infrastructure in the humanities and arts. Achieving this will require the creation of a national ecosystem for conducting interdisciplinary research on archaeological and cultural heritage materials.

The leader of the project is the Institute of Computer Science Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS). Other members of the consortium include the University of Warsaw, Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, the PAS’s Institute of Literary Research, the PAS’s Institute of History, the PAS’s Institute of Polish Language, the PAS’s Institute of Slavic Studies, the PAS’s Institute of Art, Poznan University of Technology, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Marie Curie-Skłodowska University, and Adam Mickiewicz University. At the University of Warsaw the project is implemented by the Faculties of: Archaeology, Geology, and History, as well as the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, and the Digital Competence Centre, which coordinates the conducted activities.

The funding of nearly PLN58 million will enable the further development of research infrastructure in Polish research centres. More than PLN20 million has been allocated to the UW.

The project National Cloud Infrastructure PLGrid for EOSC – PLGrid ICON received funding under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, in the second call, also with the highest rating from the submitted applications. The project aims at building modern cloud infrastructure that will enable the implementation of R&D work conducted in accordance with the Open Science paradigm, providing solutions that meet the current and future needs of the Polish society, the scientific community, and the economy.

The leader of the project is the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling at the University of Warsaw (ICM UW). Other members of the consortium are the Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet of the AGH University of Science and Technology, and WASKO S.A. as a business partner.
