The University of Warsaw has signed a cooperation agreement with Wuhan University – one of the oldest and highest-ranking research institutions in China. During a meeting held on 5th December at the Kazimierzowski Palace, both parties concluded a Memorandum of Understanding and a Student Exchange Agreement. The documents provide a formal basis for the development of joint research initiatives, academic mobility and educational cooperation between the institutions.

On 5th December, representatives of Wuhan University visited the University of Warsaw and took part in a meeting in the Senate Hall, during which the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Student Exchange Agreement were formally signed.

The cooperation framework outlined in the MoU includes, among others, exchange of faculty, joint research activities, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of academic materials, and short-term academic programmes. Under the Student Exchange Agreement, both parties will enable semester- and year-long mobility for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidates, recognised academically by the home institution.

The Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, emphasised the importance of international cooperation in the development of research and education.

“We are pleased to develop our collaboration with Wuhan University, which holds a strong research record and a significant academic position in China. At the University of Warsaw we have world-renowned research teams – from mathematics and computer science, through chemistry and physics, to the social sciences and the humanities – demonstrating that we can successfully combine fundamental research with the challenges of the modern economy. Sinology and Asian studies, in turn, have for many years trained specialists whose knowledge of Chinese language and culture supports economic, business and diplomatic cooperation, including on a global scale,” Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak said, adding: “This perspective is particularly close to me as an economist. I cooperate with Chinese researchers within the framework of the Institute of Structural Economics, where Nobel Prize laureates are also involved. Together, we work on projects concerning global economic development. This shows how important scientific relations with China are – and how much can be achieved by acting together. I believe that the documents signed today will serve as the foundation for ambitious initiatives beneficial to both our scholars and students.”

During the meeting, representatives of both institutions presented research activities conducted within their respective units and discussed areas for further cooperation. The conversation also concerned potential future initiatives, including joint research projects, academic exchange and educational programmes.
