The University of Warsaw and the Foundation for Polish Science together with the University of Cambridge will be extending the Cambridge Polish Studies. It will be financed by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Polish Studies at the Department of Slavonic Studies of the University of Cambridge commenced in 2014. The unit is not only dedicated to British students, providing them courses on Polish language, literature and culture, but also to those who would like to participate in the cycle of events open to all, including guest lectures, debates, film screenings, meetings with writers and artists, as well as academic conferences.

Financial support offered by the Polish ministry will contribute to the development of the Cambridge Polish Studies. In the future it will be possible to run Polish studies, carry out Polish-British projects, promote Polish science and culture in British academic society. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland allocated PLN 15,5 million (about EUR 3,5 million) funds for this initiative.

The University of Warsaw and the ministry have signed an agreement on 30th December. The UW faculty – “Artes Liberales” will be responsible for the cooperation with the University of Cambridge. In 2017 our University and the British one will sign an agreement regarding the extension of Polish studies in Cambridge and mutual scientific cooperation.
