Technological sovereignty and digital technologies were the main topics of the EUTechSovereignty 2025 conference, which took place on 26th May at the University of Warsaw. It is one of the key international meetings held during Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in the field of technology development. The event is organized by the university and the Polish Chamber of Commerce for High Technology.
The EUTechSovereignty2025 conference brought together representatives from the high-tech industry, scientific and research organizations, Polish and European institutions, experts in innovation and technology policy, as well as beneficiaries of projects funded through the EU Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation.
Among the topics discussed were the European Union’s strategy for technological sovereignty and the development of digital technologies.
The University of Warsaw has always been a place open to the development of the modern world and technological progress. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, during the opening of the EUTechSovereignty2025 conference.
One of the highlights of the event was the expert debate titled „How to secure the achievement of the goal of regaining Europe’s technological sovereignty in the light of the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council”. Participants during this meeting discussed Europe’s technological sovereignty in the context of the priorities of Poland’s EU Council Presidency.
Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, Prof. Andrzej Szeptycki, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Waldemar Pawlak, Prime Minister of Poland in 1992 and from 1993 to 1995, and Chair of the Senate Committee on National Economy and Innovation, Dr. Żaneta Zemła-Pacud, Deputy President of the Polish Patent Office, took part in a debate. Discussion was moderated by Prof. Jerzy Buzek, Prime Minister of Poland from 1997 to 2001 and Chair of the Council of the Polish Chamber of Commerce for High Technology.
The lecture on the use of artificial intelligence to build Europe’s technological sovereignty was given by Prof. Piotr Sankowski from the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.
The second part of the conference included a plenary session, which was announced in a speech by Prof. Zygmunt Lalak, the UW Vice-Rector for Research. The discussion during the session concerned the assessment of the impact of the EU Framework Programme instruments and European partnerships on the development of Europe’s technological sovereignty and the reconstruction of the European high-tech industry.

Knowledge Valorisation
On 27th May 27, the University of Warsaw also hosted the National Knowledge Valorisation Day, a conference focused on knowledge validation, held in connection with EUTechSovereignty2025.
During the conference, practical applications of research and innovation results were discussed. Participants shared best practices in the field of knowledge transfer, commercialization and supporting innovation-based development.
