The inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year at the University of Warsaw will begin at 2.00 pm on 1st October. The ceremony, attended by university officials and invited guests, will take place in the Auditorium Maximum on the Main Campus on Krakowskie Przedmieście. The opening lecture will be delivered by Prof. Andrzej Mencwel.

The opening ceremony of the new academic year at the University of Warsaw will take place on 1st October at 2.00 pm in the Adam Mickiewicz Hall within the Auditorium Maximum on the UW’s Main Campus on Krakowskie Przedmieście. The ceremony will be opened by the UW Rector, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak.

A regular feature of the event is the matriculation ceremony, i.e. the formal admission of new members to the academic community of the University of Warsaw. Students and doctoral candidates who achieved the best results in the admissions process will take the oath. Representatives of students and doctoral candidates will also address the gathering during the ceremony.

The inaugural lecture, entitled „Jerzy Giedroyc – wizja polityczna i rzeczywistość historyczna” (ENG: “Jerzy Giedroyc – political vision and historical reality”), will be delivered by Prof. Andrzej Mencwel – a literary historian, cultural anthropologist, critic and essayist, and emeritus professor at the Institute of Polish Culture within the UW’s Faculty of Polish Studies.

The ceremony will conclude with a rendition of “Gaudeamus igitur”.
