22nd July showed 30,261 candidates and 56,009 registrations – these are results of the admissions for the first and long-cycle programmes, and part of the second-cycle studies at the University of Warsaw. “Psychology” turned out to be the most popular in registration while “Medicine” was chosen by the highest number of applicants.
Admissions to studies at the University of Warsaw are granted to those candidates who meet the qualification threshold specific to their chosen programme and who get within the designated seat limits. This year’s admission process for the first and long-cycle studies as well as some second-cycle studies ran from 6th June to 10th July. Candidates were offered a choice of approximately 300 study programmes.
The University of Warsaw in the 2024/2025 admissions for the first, second and long-cycle programmes offered 19,899 full-time and 4,788 part-time places for prospective students.
The admissions results have been available since 22nd July on personal IRK system accounts.
Over thirty thousand candidates
In the system of Internet Recruitment of Candidates (IRK) of the University of Warsaw, 30,261 registered candidates enrolled for 56,009 first and long-cycle studies (49,431) and 6,578 second-cycle studies. Two record holders enrolled for eighteen programmes (each one of them).
According to the preliminary results, the largest number of registrations were made for programmes:
- Psychologia (Psychology), full-time, full-cycle programmes in Polish and English (2,742 applicants);
- Zarządzanie (Management), full-time, first-cycle programme in Polish (2,683);
- Economics, Finance and Accounting, Computer Science and Econometrics, full-time, first-cycle programme (2,411);
- English Studies – Linguistics, English Studies – Literature and Culture, full-time, first-cycle programme (1,928);
- Prawo (Law), full-time, full-cycle programme (1,867).
The highest number of applicants per place as in programmes:
- Kierunek lekarski (Medicine), full-time, full-cycle (24.62 applicants per place);
- Orientalistyka – japonistyka (Oriental studies – Japanese Studies), full-time, first-cycle (22.76);
- Business and Management, full-time, first-cycle (19.15);
- Orientalistyka – koreanistyka (Oriental studies – Korean Studies), full-time, first-cycle (15.76);
- Psychologia (Psychology), full-time, full-cycle (13.57).
Registrations for some second-cycle studies as well as part of the part-time first-cycle and long-cycle programmes are underway. Dates of examinations and/or interviews, including those testing the command of a foreign language, are provided in the description of each study programme in the Appendix No. 4 to the Resolution No. 269 of the Senate of the University of Warsaw, dated 24th May 2023 (in Polish).
Submission of documents
Due to the information provided on their personal IRK system account, the qualified candidates have three days to submit their documents to a given faculty recruitment committee. The papers should be delivered between 23rd and 25th July. In subsequent rounds, documents can be submitted on 26th and 29th July, and between 30th and 31st July. Admission timelines and rules can be found at www.irk.uw.edu.pl, in the description of a chosen degree programme.
In the place of an accepted candidate who does not submit their documents in time, another person ranked on the reserve list will be accepted.
Another round of the admission process can be started if a ranking list has not been fulfilled. Additional rounds usually start in August and September.
New study programmes
- Business and Management, first-cycle programme at the Faculty of Management
The programme aims to produce a graduate who is familiar with research methodology and terminology in management and in complementary disciplines such as economics, finance and legal sciences. The students will gain the skills to prepare independent and collaborative studies on the functioning of organisations, the sector and the economy as a whole, and to present them communicatively in English.
- Adult Education and Developmental Activities Design, second-cycle programme at the Faculty of Education
The program was created in response to the growing demand of the labour market for specialists in the field of adult education. The students will have various opportunities to shape their career paths, gaining competencies in entrepreneurship, career planning, communication, educational leadership, modern technology in education and many other areas.
The following new programmes will be conducted in Polish:
- Bezpieczeństwo wewnętrzne (Internal Security), first-cycle programme at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies;
- Edukacja alternatywna z animacją społeczno-kulturalną (Alternative Education with Socio-Cultural Animation), first-cycle programme at the Faculty of Education;
- Edukacja alternatywna z edukacją artystyczną, (Alternative Education with Art Education), second-cycle programme at the Faculty of Education;
- Energetyka jądrowa (Nuclear Energy), first-cycle programme at the Faculty of Physics
- Europejskie studia ukrainistyczne (European Ukrainian Studies), second-cycle programme at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics;
- Ochrona zwierząt (Animal Protection), second-cycle programme at the University Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development;
- Rachunkowość i controlling (Accounting and Controlling), second-cycle programme at the Faculty of Management;
- Sztuka pisania (Creative Writing), second-cycle programme at the Faculty of Polish Studies.
