The Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling of the UW has been 3rd in the Webometrics 2016 ranking of European research centres. Better in this classification were only CERN and Max Planck Gesellschaft. Globally, the ICM ranked 13th.
Webometrics is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC) – the biggest research body in Spain. It is a ranking system for the world’s universities and research centres based on institution’s web visibility and activity indicators like the total number of web pages, the number of pdf files and the number of papers in Google Scholar for the whole database.
The Webometrics 2016 has covered about 8 000 research centres worldwide. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling of the UW has gained 3rd position, following European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN – 1st place and Max Planck Gesellschaft – 2nd position.
For many years operations of the ICM UW have been a significant element of the programme for the development of scientific infrastructure in Poland. The ICM UW has provided high power computers, professional graphic stations and specialized software to the Polish scientific community. It has been also a centre that has developed and has made available a wide range of publications, electronic information resources and scientific data.
