We are publishing a statement from deans and directors of the units of the University of Warsaw on the actions undertaken by the Rector of the University of Warsaw.

17th June 2024

Dear Sirs and Madams,

Dear Colleagues,

Members of the University of Warsaw Community,

Any form of violence, provoking conflicts, escalating aggression resulting in the loss of life – these should be condemned. We are all connected with social sensitivity to harm as well as solidarity with victims. It is commendable that so many academic communities, especially students, share these values! We do support the right to peacefully express dissent and manifest viewpoints.

However, the sensitivity to harm and the solidarity with each victim of conflicts remain inconsistent with unworthy actions. Protests should be addressed to appropriate recipients while violence should not be used in expressing them. In fact, violence deserves to be condemned. The Rector of the University of Warsaw is not a party in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. We object to associating the unmet demands of the protesters with the acceptance of the military conflict!

We, the undersigned, express our full support for the actions of the Rector of the University of Warsaw aimed at ensuring safe working and studying conditions.
