Prof. Piotr Sankowski has received a European Research Council grant. He works at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw.
European Research Council is the first pan-European funding body for frontier research – which lead to important discoveries and crucial results. Five years ago Prof. Sankowski was awarded with ERC Starting Grant – „PAAl – Practical Approximation Algorithms”. On the 13th of July ERC funded his next grant in the Proof of Concept call. These types of grant are dedicated to ERC grant holders only, who want to bring ERC-funded ideas to a pre-demonstration and commercialization phase. This year in the first round ERC awarded 45 researchers based in 13 countries. Every laureate got 150 thousand euro.
Professor Piotr Sankowski is a computer scientist. He is 37. Since 2010 he has been a Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw. The PAAl project aimed to bring to live an open source, a header-only, generic library consisting of approximation algorithms, data structures and several complete solutions for the various optimization problems.
