University of Warsaw ranks highest among Polish universities, between 401 and 500 position (the only university in Poland to be in the Top 500). American universities, Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are on the first places of the ranking.

The Shanghai List is based on six indicators, including: the number of alumni and faculty who have received the Nobel Prize or Fields Medal, the number of authors on the Highly Cited Researchers list, the number of articles in “Nature” and “Science” journals, as well as data on the university’s publication record in selected Web of Science™ databases: Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index™.
