Why do empires collapse? How to solve the reachability problem in infinite-state systems? In what ways does mathematics allow us to describe the structure of a graph? During the following years, these questions will be explored by three researchers from the University of Warsaw. On 9th December, Prof. Maria Nowak, Prof. Wojciech Czerwiński and Prof. Michał Pilipczuk joined the group of recipients of the prestigious ERC Consolidator Grants.
On 9th December, the European Research Council (ERC) announced the latest recipients of its Consolidator Grants. Funding of total 728 million euros was awarded to 349 researchers who will carry out their projects in 25 countries. Four of this year’s grantees will conduct their research at Polish institutions, including three scholars from the University of Warsaw: Prof. Maria Nowak from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, and Prof. Wojciech Czerwiński and Prof. Michał Pilipczuk from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics.
Consolidator Grants are intended for independent researchers who are strengthening their teams and wish to pursue their research in Europe. They may be awarded to scholars between seven and twelve years after completing their PhD.
The ERC has already awarded 41 grants to researchers from the University of Warsaw, as well as one grant to an international researcher carrying out their project at the University.
