Prof. Maciej Raś, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching and Learning, met with the winners of a debate competition from two Tanzanian universities at the University of Warsaw. The meeting was part of a study visit organised by the Polish Press Agency on behalf of the Department of Promotion and Cultural Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Polish Press Agency, on behalf of the Department of Promotion and Cultural Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is organising a study visit for three winners of a debate competition from Tanzania. Careen James Ndika, Diana Shabani and Kijafaraja Maduhu are representatives of two African universities – the University of Dar es Salaam and Tumaini University.
At the University of Warsaw, the students participated in a meeting with Prof. Maciej Ras, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching and Learning, during which they discussed the role of higher education in building global relations and the importance of internationalisation in the everyday functioning of the university.
“The interest in studying at the University of Warsaw shown by candidates from various countries is proof of how important a part of the global network of universities we are. A meeting like this shows that science truly knows no boundaries,” emphasised Prof. Maciej Raś during the meeting.
International cooperation and partnerships with universities from different parts of the world are not just a formal exchange – they are primarily about sharing knowledge, culture and perspectives that enrich the entire academic community. The meeting aimed, among other things, to present Poland as a country open to international cooperation, especially with partners from African countries, and to encourage young people from Tanzania to study in our country.
The visit is part of a broader context of public diplomacy and development cooperation between Poland and Tanzania, including strengthening the potential of young people, promoting Poland’s cultural and historical heritage, and counteracting disinformation. The meeting at the University of Warsaw was an important part of this programme, demonstrating the importance of education as a bridge connecting different cultures and continents.
In 2022, Karen Nyakato Kyabega, a Tanzanian student at the UW’s Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, won the 12th edition of the INTERSTUDENT competition in the undergraduate category.
