The National Agency for Academic Exchange has announced the results of the 8th edition of the Polish Returns programme. Eleven people will return from abroad to work as researchers in Poland. Most five researchers will start their work at the University of Warsaw.

Thanks to the Polish Returns programme of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), outstanding Polish researchers who have so far developed their scientific careers abroad can continue their research at domestic universities as well as scientific and research institutes. Under the 8th edition, 11 projects will receive funding. Five of them will be implemented at the University of Warsaw. Researchers will start work at the faculties of Physics and Chemistry. The total value of NAWA funding for projects selected in this edition is over PLN 18 million.

Laureates who will start work at the UW:
  • Waldemar Priebe, project title: Inhibitory topoizomerazy 2 przechodzące przez barierę krew-mózg ukierunkowane na nowotwory OUN (ENG: Topoisomerase 2 inhibitors crossing the blood-brain barrier targeting CNS tumours), Faculty of Chemistry;
  • Dominika Zgid at the UW will lead the research group at the UW implementing the ERC Advanced grant. Project title: Modelling of optically excited states in periodic and molecular systems with the self-consistent Green’s function methods, Faculty of Physics;
  • Dr Monika Piersa-Siłkowska, project title: Eksperymentalne badanie egzotycznych jąder atomowych z dużym nadmiarem neutronów (ENG: Experimental study of exotic atomic nuclei with a large excess of neutrons), Faculty of Physics;
  • Dr Tomasz Skóra, project title: From coarse grains to atoms and back: a rigorous multiscale modelling approach to diffusion under macromolecular crowding, Faculty of Physics;
  • Dr Jonasz Słomka, Project title: Wykorzystanie zderzaczy komórek do identyfikacji super-rozprzestrzeniania się oporności bakterii (ENG: Use of cell colliders to identify the super diffusion of bacterial resistance), Faculty of Physics.
