The University of Warsaw was ranked 319th in the Best Global Universities Rankings that compared 1000 top world’s universities from 65 countries. In the regional ranking the UW was listed 141st.
The classification was prepared by an American company – U.S. News & World Report which publishes information, opinions, rankings and analyses. The authors used 12 indicators that measure academic research performance and global and regional reputation, such as publications, research reputation, citations and international cooperation. The number one is the Harvard University.
Among the 1000 best institutions of higher education in the world, the University of Warsaw was ranked 319th. In Europe, the UW was listed 141st.
Our university is a leader among Polish institutions. The second top one is the Jagiellonian University. However, the Best Global Universities ranking included also other 11 Polish institutions of higher education: the Warsaw University of Technology, the AGH University of Science and Technology, the University of Wrocław, the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the University of Lodz, the Medical University of Warsaw, the University of Silesia in Katowice, the University of Gdansk and the Medical University of Gdańsk.
In the ranking by subject, 5 UW’s programmes of study were listed. These include:
- Mathematics – 78th place,
- Physics – 113th place,
- Space Science – 167th place,
- Chemistry – 263rd place,
- Biology and Biochemistry – 271st place.
