The University of Warsaw has been ranked in seven disciplines in this year’s edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). Compared with 2025, physics, sociology and mathematics have improved their positions. The UW is the national leader in four disciplines.
Seven academic disciplines taught at the University of Warsaw were ranked in this year’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. Depending on the discipline, the ranking covers between 100 and 500 of the world’s top universities.
Disciplines taught at the University of Warsaw included in the ranking:
- physics (101–150) – an improvement compared with 2025, when this discipline was ranked 151–200;
- sociology (151–200) – an improvement compared with 2025 (201–300);
- Earth sciences (201–300);
- mathematics (201–300) – an improvement compared with 2025 (301–400);
- computer science and engineering (301–400);
- economics (401–500);
- psychology (401–500).
In total, three disciplines at the UW – physics, sociology and mathematics – have improved their position in the global rankings compared with 2025.
The UW leads the way in Poland in four disciplines
In terms of its national ranking, the University of Warsaw is the leader in Poland in four disciplines: physics, sociology, earth sciences, and computer science and engineering.
Sociology recorded a particularly marked rise, moving from 3rd place in Poland in 2025 to 1st place in 2026. Physics improved on its previous ranking in the 1st–2nd range and now stands alone in 1st place nationally. Earth Sciences and Computer Science and Engineering have maintained their positions as national leaders.
The ranking takes into account indicators relating to the universities’ scientific activity and impact, including the quality of research, publications, scientific achievements and research collaboration.
