The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has published the provisional results of the evaluation of the quality of research activity. The University of Warsaw achieved nine top-tier ratings (A+), which is the best result among all universities and research institutions evaluated in Poland.

The evaluation assessed the quality of research activities carried out between 2022 and 2025. The assessment was based on three criteria:

  • the scientific standard of the activities carried out (publications, patents),
  • the financial outcomes of scientific research and development work (research projects, revenue from services and commercialisation),
  • the impact of scientific activity on society or the economy.

At the University of Warsaw, 26 academic disciplines were assessed. Nine of them were awarded category A+, nine were awarded category A, and eight were awarded category B+.

“I rate these results very highly. I am particularly pleased with the increase in the number of top-tier A+ ratings. Philosophy, economics and finance have, quite deservedly, joined the ranks of the disciplines that are national leaders,” says Prof. Zygmunt Lalak, the UW Vice-Rector for Research. “However, we regard the published results as preliminary. Once we have received the decision, together with a detailed justification of the ratings, we will analyse them and appeal against some of the decisions,” adds the Vice-Rector.
