Applications for the 4th edition of the “Scholarship to Start” programme at the University of Warsaw are being accepted until 24th April. The scholarship is intended for first-year students and doctoral candidates.
“Scholarship to Start” is funded by the Rector’s Scholarship Fund. It is open to individuals who began their studies in the 2025/2026 academic year in a first- or second-cycle programme, a long-cycle programme, or a doctoral programme.
There are three types of scholarships available:
- “Scholarship to Start for Olympians” – intended for first-year students in first- and second-cycle degree programmes who are winners of subject Olympiads and who received the maximum number of points in the admissions process based on their title as an Olympiad winner;
- “Scholarship to Start for Athletes” – intended for first-year students in first-, second-, and long-cycle degree programmes, as well as first-year doctoral candidates, who are outstanding athletes. To be eligible for the scholarship, a person must have placed in the top 10 at the Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships, or Polish Championships (but no lower than 10th place), and—in the case of students—are eligible for the rector’s scholarship in the academic year in which they apply for the “Scholarship to Start”;
- “Scholarship to Start for Doctoral Candidates” – intended for first-year doctoral candidates in a doctoral school who, in the admissions process, achieved a score ranking in the top 20% of admitted students as of 1st October of the academic year in which the doctoral candidate applies for the scholarship, separately for: the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School, the Warsaw Doctoral School of Mathematics and Computer Science, and in other cases: separately for each doctoral school, broken down by field of study.
The scholarship is awarded for a period of 12 months and paid in a single instalment. To date, in all editions of the programme, funding has been awarded a total of over 660 times.
The application period for the 4th edition runs until 24th April.
