On 6th March, a joint meeting of the University Science Committee and the University Committee for Internationalisation of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities (KRUP) was held at the University of Warsaw.

“The topics discussed by both committees are very important to our universities. Today, it is difficult to imagine the development of science in Poland without internationalisation. On the other hand, one of the main reasons why foreigners come to Poland is often to establish scientific cooperation,” said Prof. Zygmunt Lalak, the UW Vice-Rector for Research, who chairs the University Science Committee of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities (KRUP) for the 2024–2028 term.

On 6th March, a joint meeting of two KRUP committees, the University Science Committee (UKN) and the University Committee for Internationalisation (UKU), was held in the Senate Hall of the University of Warsaw.

“Currently, internationalisation horizontally permeates all activities of the academic community. It also fits perfectly into the period of Poland’s high attractiveness – not only economically, but also as an educational market,” said Prof. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Internationalisation at the University of Gdańsk, Chair of UKU KRUP.

Topics discussed during the meeting included the internationalisation strategy, also within the framework of European Universities, as well as scientific cooperation between Polish universities, the completed evaluation of the quality of scientific activity for 2022–2025, and the scoring of scientific journals.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwiak, Director of the National Science Centre, who gave a presentation on the security of scientific research and presented proposals for systemic solutions in this area. The second guest was Prof. Krzysztof Bakuła, Director of the Science Department at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He presented the current status of work on a new model for evaluating science and discussed the most important challenges currently being addressed by his department. The presence of both guests enabled a discussion and the presentation of comments and opinions on the proposed solutions.

The University Science Commission is a body established by the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities. It conducts analytical activities, supports the exchange of experiences and develops ways to implement the mission of classical universities in the areas of scientific and research activities, implementation of scientific research results and international cooperation.

The University Committee for Internationalisation consists of representatives of all universities affiliated with the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities. One of the main tasks of the UKU is to coordinate activities between Polish and international universities. Prof. Sambor Grucza, the UW Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Human Resources, is a member of the UKU on behalf of the University of Warsaw.
