“Polish pupils won four medals at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in Mumbai, beating over 300 participants from 60 countries. The gold medal was won by Dawid Chudzik, a high school student from Warsaw. Such talents are a source of pride. I congratulate the entire team and each individual on their success. The University of Warsaw is waiting for you,” says Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw.

Poland was also represented by Antoni Gazda from Dukla. The team was supervised by Dr Waldemar Ogłoza and Dr Grzegorz Kondrat. For Dawid Chudzik, this year’s success is a continuation of his achievements – in 2024, he won silver medal at the IOAA in Brazil.

The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics is a prestigious competition for young astronomy enthusiasts. Participants solve theoretical, observational and data analysis tasks. Poland is one of the founding countries of the IOAA. It is also one of the few countries to have hosted the competition twice – in the Silesian Voivodeship. Each year, Poland is represented by five winners of the national Astronomy Olympiad, organised by the Silesian Planetarium. The IOAA competition has been held since 2007.
