UW researchers among the 2021 FNP Prize laureates

Two UW academics Prof. Jacek Jemielity from the Centre of New Technologies and Prof. Cezary Cieśliński from the Faculty of Philosophy, have been awarded the Foundation for Polish Science Prize – one of the most prestigious in Poland. 

The FNP Prize is an individual award granted by the Council of the Foundation for Polish Science in four areas: life and earth sciences; chemistry and materials sciences; mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences; and humanities and social sciences. It aims to recognise researchers with outstanding achievements and scientific discoveries that push the boundaries of cognition and open new research perspectives. The Prizes have been awarded since 1992.

It has been the 13th edition of the FNP Prize. Among this year’s laureates are four academics. Two of them are from the University of Warsaw.

  • Prof. Jacek Jemielity from the Centre of New Technologies of the University of Warsaw has received the 2021 FNP Prize in the area of chemistry and materials sciences for “developing chemical modifications of mRNA as tools for therapeutic applications and studies on cellular processes.”
  • Professor Cezary Cieślinski from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw has received the 2021 FNP Prize in the area of humanities and social sciences for solving the key problems of the deflationary theory of truth.”

Other academics awarded with the 2021 FNP Prize:

  • in the area of life and earth sciences: Prof. Bożena Kamińska-Kaczmarek from the M. Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS in Warsaw;
  • in the area of mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences: Prof. Grzegorz Pietrzyński from the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Centre PAS in Warsaw.

All laureates of the Prize will be distinguisged during the award ceremony that will be held on 7th December.
