On 25th February, Prof. Anna Matysiak from the UW Faculty of Economic Sciences, who recently received an ERC grant, will deliver a lecture entitled “Family and fertility in the dynamically changing world of work”. This lecture begins a series of meetings, being a part of the doctoral programme at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences.

The Seminar is dedicated to all doctoral students of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences. However, the event is open to the public. During the seminar, scientists will present interesting research that goes beyond a single discipline. Not only UW scientists will give presentations, but also eminent representatives of social studies from abroad.

 

Prof. Anna Matysiak is a family demographer with a special interest in labour market research. Her main areas of expertise cover family and fertility dynamics and their interrelationships with labour market dynamics, gender relations, family and employment policies and quality of life. She obtained her PhD in Economics in 2009 and Habilitation in 2017, both from the Warsaw School of Economics. She worked as Assistant Professor at the Institute of Statistics and Demography at the Warsaw School of Economics (2009-2013) and Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Vienna Institute of Demography (2013-2019). Since November 2019, she has been working at the University of Warsaw (Faculty of Economic Sciences). She is also Deputy Editor at Demography (since mid-2017) and the PI of a recently awarded ERC Consolidator Grant “Globalization- and Technology-driven Labour Market Change and Fertility” (LABFER). Prof. Matysiak was awarded numerous awards, including the Dirk J. van de Kaa Award for Social Demography from the European Association for Population Studies and the Award of the Polish National Science Centre for significant scientific achievements in the field of humanities, social sciences and art.
