On 3rd July, a meeting between the UW Rector and the Sudanese delegation took place in the Golden Hall of the Casimir Palace.

From the UW side, the meeting was attended by Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, Prof. Bartosz Kontny, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology, Prof. Artur Obłuski, Director of the Polish  Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology (PCMA), Dr. Nagmeldin Karamalla-Gaiballa, Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Cultural Diversity, and Dr. Katarzyna de Lellis-Danys from the UW’s PCMA. The participants agreed on the directions for expanding cooperation, including academic exchanges, the implementation of research projects, and the organisation of scientific conferences.

Cooperation between the UW and Sudan has been going on for almost 60 years. We want to develop it not only in archaeology and political science, but also in other areas such as economics, management or artificial intelligence. We want to expand academic exchanges through the Erasmus programme. We are inviting Sudanese students to join the English-language archaeology programme at the Faculty of Archaeology. We will also support the establishment of scientific, cultural and economic contacts between Poland and Sudan, which will also contribute to supporting Sudan in its recovery from war damage, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, emphasised.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Warsaw and the UW’s Faculty of Archaeology would prepare a proposal for a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Warsaw and Sudanese universities, setting out the directions for further cooperation.
