Letter of intent on Polish-French collaboration

Prof. Marcin Pałys, the UW Rector, signed a letter of intent, between the University of Warsaw, University of Sorbonne, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the Embassy of the French Republic to Poland, on strengthen research cooperation in the area of humanities and social sciences.

Centre for French Culture and Francophone Studies (Centre de Civilisation Francaise et d’Etudes Francophones) was established in 1958 at the University of Warsaw as a result of Polish-French bilateral intergovernmental agreement. Michel Foucault was its first director. A few years later, its twin institution was set in Sorbonne, Centre de civilisation polonaise.

 

Now, UW is planning to broaden the Centre for French Culture and Francophone Studies activities and structure.

 

The University of Warsaw, University of Sorbonne, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the Embassy of the French Republic to Poland intent to strengthen their research cooperation in the area of humanities and social sciences. Representatives of these institutions: Prof. Marcin Pałys, UW Rector; Prof. Jean Chambaz, SU President; Frederic Billet, Ambassador of the French Republic to Poland, and Alain SCHUHL, CNRS Deputy CEO, signed the letter of intent aiming at developing their collaboration.

 

These institutions want to transform the “Centre de Civilisation Franęaise et d’Etudes Francophones” (CCFEF) at UW, and create, within a year, the “Centre franco-polonais de recherches en sciences humaines et sociales (Centre Michel Foucault a I’Universite de Varsovie)” / FrenchPolish Centre for Research in Humanities and Social Sciences (Michel Foucault Centre at the University of Warsaw).

 

The new unit will strengthen collaboration in the range of:

  • French-Polish research relations in humanities and social sciences;
  • The 4EU+ Alliance;
  • Own research.

Institutions will set up a special working group, in which the Director of the CCFEF and representatives of other units will be involved, in order to conduct the discussions.

 

The letter of intent was signed on 21st February at the University of Warsaw.
