Lieutenant General Prof. Grzegorz Gielerak, Director of the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute, a strategic partner of the University of Warsaw’s medical degree programme, has been awarded the title of Personality of the Year 2025 in the prestigious Health Care Success of the Year – Leaders in Medicine competition. The award was presented during the Health Care Priorities 2026 conference in recognition of his contribution to the development of modern military medicine and national health security.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to Lieutenant General Prof. Grzegorz Gielerak on being awarded the title of Personality of the Year 2025 in the Health Care Success of the Year competition. The cooperation between the University of Warsaw and the Military Institute of Medicine in establishing the Faculty of Medicine goes beyond educating future physicians; it represents a consistent effort to build a modern centre for medical research and innovation,” said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw.
Lieutenant General Prof. Grzegorz Gielerak, MD, PhD, has served for many years as Director of the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute. He was honoured with the Personality of the Year 2025 title for his long-standing and consistent engagement in the development of military medicine as an integral element of national health security. His work has gained particular importance in the context of the current, highly challenging geopolitical environment and the growing pressures faced by health care systems.
The Health Care Success of the Year competition accompanies one of the most important expert debates on the future of Poland’s health care system. This year’s edition of the Health Care Priorities 2026 conference brought together more than 1,300 participants, including representatives of public administration, academia, the medical community, patient organisations and the innovation sector.
