Experts from the UW in the ministerial team

The Minister of Science and Higher Education has appointed a Team to develop assumptions for a new model of evaluation of the quality of scientific activity. Among the experts there is Prof. Ewa Krogulec, the UW Vice-Rector for Development.

On 8th April, the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Marcin Kulasek, handed out appointments to members of the Team for the development of assumptions for a new model of evaluation of the quality of scientific activity, covering the years 2026–2029.

Among the 16 experts there is Prof. Ewa Krogulec, the UW Vice-Rector for Development, whose scientific work deals with hydrogeological research, focusing particularly on the protection of the state and quality of groundwater. Prof. Krogulec is a member of the Committee on Water Science and Water Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences. For many years, she has served as chairperson of the Documentation Commission Hydrogeological, an advisory body to the Minister of the Environment. She is a member of the Earth Resources Management Council of the Minister of Climate and Environment, the Working Groups for National Smart Specialisations in the Ministry of Development and Technology, and the Monitoring Committee of the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment programme for 2021–2027. She is a member of many scientific councils, including the scientific councils of several national parks, the Scientific Council of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute. Prof. Ewa Krogulec is also a member of the Climate Council of the UN Global Compact Network Poland.

 

Prof. Marcin Pałys, Chairman of the General Council for Science and Higher Education and former Rector of the University of Warsaw (2012–2020), was also appointed to the ministerial team. Prof. Pałys’ main research interests include inorganic and physical chemistry, in particular the study of complex transport phenomena in electrochemical systems and the application of artificial intelligence methods in chemistry. Prof. Marcin Pałys is involved in the activities of the European University Association: he was a member of the RIS3 Expert Group and an expert of the External Advisory Group for the European Commission’s flagship initiatives (FET Flagship projects), and is currently a member of the EUA Board. He works at the UW’s Faculty of Chemistry.

The tasks of the team include:

  • substantive evaluation of postulates submitted by representative institutions of the higher education and science community;
  • conducting an analysis of the current legal state in the field of evaluation;
  • developing proposals for solutions and substantive assumptions for a new evaluation model.
