The University of Warsaw Rover Team will take part in the University Rover Challenge that will be held from 1st to 3rd June in the desert of southern Utah in the USA. The team will present a new rover – Anteros.

The University Rover Challenge (URC) is the most prestigious robotics competition for students. Student teams design and build the next generation of Mars rovers that will one day work alongside astronauts exploring the Red Planet.

36 teams from 7 countries will compete at the Mars Desert Research Station during the University Rover Challenge. The University of Warsaw Rover Team and four other teams from Poland will also participate in that competition. Their mars rovers will have to accomplish a set of tasks such as exploration of rough terrain, picking up and delivering objects, manipulating equipment and performing geological surveys of the area. These tasks are meant to simulate what real rovers may face during future manned missions to Mars.

The University of Warsaw Rover Team will present its new mars rover called the Anteros. It will feature the best solutions from the previous model, the Axolot, and also introduce innovations and improvements.

– One of the core elements of our machin eis the strong, durable and multipurpose arm. It is based on our last year successful design and alows the rover not only to pick up tools and manipulate the equipment but also to lift the entire vehicle for example to recover from the overturn or to cross an obstacle – says Marta Mościcka, the member of the University of Warsaw Rover Team.
