81st Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising

Drukuj

On 1st August  – as each year – the University of Warsaw academic community will pay tribute to the Warsaw Uprising soldiers. The ceremony will begin at 12:00 noon at the University’s Main Gate.

81 years ago, in the day of the beginning of Warsaw Uprising, the 8th Group of the First Region of the First District of the Home Army, Warsaw-Śródmieście, attempted to retake the University of Warsaw campus from the occupying German forces. On 5th August, the group was merged with two other units to form the “Krybar” Combat Group.

As every year, the University of Warsaw, together with the “Krybar” Combat Group of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, is organising a ceremony on the Main Campus commemorating the Heroes of 1944. Warsaw Uprising insurgents, representatives of the University community, and Warsaw residents will participate in the event.

The ceremony will begin at 12:00 pm at the plaque commemorating the Warsaw Uprising insurgents near the Main Gate on the campus on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.
