Prof. Marcin Pałys, the University of Warsaw rector, has been elected the European University Association Board member. EUA represents more than 800 universities and national rectors’ conferences in 48 European countries. It plays a crucial role in the Bologna Process and in influencing EU policies on higher education, research and innovation.

The new Board and has been elected during the EUA’s 2019 Annual Conference entitled “Driving innovation in Europe’s universities”. The conference began yesterday at Sorbonne University and will last until Friday. Besides the elections, the programme of the event includes the meeting of Board, Council and General Assembly. “Universities as key players in innovation”, “Fostering new generations of innovators”, and “Building partnership” are the topics of three plenary sessions to be discussed by the rectors, vice-rectors, heads of administration, higher education researchers and analysts, as well as representatives of other bodies involved in educational policy.

 

Professor Pałys has actively contributed to EUA initiatives, through his membership of the RIS3 Expert Group and participation in various meetings organised by EUA. Between 2011 and 2013 he served as an expert for the External Advisory Group on the European Commission FET Flagship projects.

 

There were two candidates for EUA President and 7 for EUA Board members. Only full members of General Assembly were entitled to vote. The new President and Board members will serve from 2019 to 2023.

 

The EUA Board consists of nine members, including the EUA President. It is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the Association’s policy, the planning of its activities and the management of its affairs.
