In 1976 the American Studies Center was established at the UW. In the same year the Polish Studies Center was founded at the IU Bloomington. On 1st June universities will renew primary academic agreement.

The agreement between the University of Warsaw and the Indiana University Bloomington is one of the first accords which the UW signed with the American academic society. Under the agreement two new units were founded: the American Studies Center and the Polish Studies Center. Nowadays, after 40 years the ASC is one of the biggest American Studies departments in Europe. It runs interdisciplinary B.A., M.A. and postgraduate programmes and cooperates with many American universities and research institutions.

One of the elements of the mutual cooperation between the UW and IU is an academic exchange. Every year, doctoral students, young academic teachers as well as professors have the possibility to visit American university. In the last decade more than 40 researchers went to Bloomington or came to Warsaw. In 2010 the Indiana University Alumni and Friends Association was funded.

Strong relations have been between the Maurer School of Law of the IU and the Faculty of Law and Administration of the UW. Units of both universities organize jointed scientific conferences, take part in the student exchange programmes. In the future they plan to enhance cooperation.

On 1st June authorities of the UW and the IU will meet due to 40th anniversary of mutual relationship.
